Influenza Assessment Centres
At of end of clinic hours, Monday, November 23, all Influenza Assessment Centres (IAC)s in the Province will be closed. This decision has been made in response to the significantly decreased volume of patients seen in the IACs over the past week. This volume can now be accommodated by Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Centres and community physician offices.
Alberta’s Influenza Assessment Centres have assessed and treated over 10,000 patients with influenza illness. In redirecting these individuals to the IACs – and away from other care facilities and emergency departments – Alberta Health Services (AHS) provided an alternative point of care for the large number of mild cases our communities saw earlier this month.
AHS will continue to monitor Emergency and Urgent Care patient volumes and can reopen IACs if required.
Before seeking treatment, individuals with common symptoms of influenza are encouraged to:
- review self-care information;
- see the H1N1 Symptom Decision Chart;
- call HealthLink Alberta for advice on managing symptoms, or;
- call their family doctor.
