Boil water order issued – New Dayton

June 23, 2010

Alberta Health Services issued a boil water order for the Hamlet of New Dayton at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. New Dayton is located in southern Alberta between Stirling and Warner on Highway 4, about 48 kilometres southeast of Lethbridge.

New Dayton receives its water from the Milk River Ridge Reservoir, the same artificial lake which serves Raymond, where a boil water advisory issued on June 20th remains in effect. The turbidity in the reservoir has reached a level where local water treatment facilities are unable to effectively guarantee safe, quality water for human consumption.

Alberta Health Services is working with Alberta Environment and the Town to monitor drinking water safety and quality. The order will be lifted when all water quality parameters are satisfactorily achieved and test results show the water is safe to drink.

Residents are advised to bring their water to a rapid, rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes, including drinking, making infant formula and juices, cooking, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice. Alternatively, residents may use bottled water.

The boil water order will remain in effect until the situation is resolved and water quality is tested and approved by a Public Health Inspector.

Boil water advisories remain in effect for the Towns of Raymond and Fort Macleod, and the Village of Walsh and the Hamlet of Veinerville near Medicine Hat.
