On July 21, 2010, the Government of Alberta announced projects in phase one of its Health Capital Plan. Among the highlights are plans to proceed with a new health care facility for Edson.

“A new health facility in Edson will bring community health and wellness, primary care and acute care together, in one location for patients and their families,” says Shelly Pusch, vice president, North Zone, Alberta Health Services.

“It gives us tremendous opportunity to deliver health services, in a setting that supports a truly integrated health model.”

To replace the Edson Healthcare Centre, the new facility will be built on a new site, with construction targeted to begin in 2012.

“We know that health facility projects are very important for our communities and we look forward to working with staff, physicians and community partners on these developments in the immediate future,” says Pusch.

The province has committed a total of $108 million for the new health facility in Edson. Completion is anticipated in the spring of 2014.

“Consolidating these health care services in a new facility will significantly improve both access, and quality of care for residents in the community and surrounding area,” said Pusch.
