President & Chief Executive Officer Biography
Dr. Stephen Duckett has spent his professional life working in leadership, policy and education roles in health care. Most of his experience prior to assuming his current role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services in March 2009 was in Australia, occupying leadership roles in two states (Victoria, as a Regional Director and Director of Acute Health and Queensland, as Chief Executive of the Centre for Healthcare Improvement) and at the national level as Secretary (equivalent to Canada's Deputy Minister) of the Commonwealth Health Department (1994-1996). In addition he has provided consulting advice in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and New Zealand.
In education, Dr. Duckett has also served as Professor of Health Policy, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Teaching, at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.
Trained as an economist, he has doctoral degrees in health administration (PhD, University of New South Wales), health policy (DSc, University of New South Wales) and higher education management (DBA, University of Bath).
