Unit Clerk Project
A recent online survey of unit clerks in the Calgary Zone indicated a desire for further information regarding workflow processes related to ACP:GCD documents.
A blended-learning initiative for unit clerks was developed and includes an e-learning module combined with face to face education.
- Beginning in November 2011, eight acute care units from Peter Lougheed Centre, Foothills Medical Centre and Rockyview General Hospital are participating in a Unit Clerk Education Pilot Project.
- The learning outcomes identified for the project are as follows: Unit clerks will be able to:
- Describe the role of the Unit Clerk as it relates to the Advance Care Planning: Goals of Care (Adult) Policy in the Calgary Zone.
- Relate the role of the Unit Clerk to policy success, and patient satisfaction and safety across health care sectors.
The project involves the following five components:
- One-week pre-education tracking of the flow of ACP:GCD documents onto and off of the unit.
- e-Learning self-study module for unit clerks to complete during week two of the pilot.
- Face-to-face education sessions in week three, to answer questions and identify unit-specific factors related to the ACP:GCD workflow processes.
- One-week post-education tracking of the flow of ACP:GCD documents onto and off of the unit.
- Analysis of the pre and post tracking data as well as feedback regarding education and presentation of results back to units involved.
