Yummy summer in Tofield

August 7, 2012

TOFIELD — The “taste of summer” here has turned delicious and sweet for long-term care residents thanks to the Tofield & Area Health Services Foundation.

With the help of Nutrition Services staff at Tofield Health Centre, foundation trustees and their families played host to a monthly barbecue for residents, their families and long-term care staff in May, June and July. Summer’s final barbecue will take place on Aug. 28.

“Our residents have really enjoyed the social interaction, having family and members in the community drop by for the barbecues,” says Hilda Tucker, Foundation secretary. “They appreciate feeling they're being treated to something special and being remembered by the community.”

The barbecues have also proven a good mixer for Foundation members and staff to get to know one another better.

The monthly menus for A Taste of Summer have featured chicken breasts, steaks, ribs, burgers and kabobs along with healthy side dishes and desserts; the barbecues have emerged as a highlight on the residents’ social calendar. Residents also enjoy, thanks to the Foundation, trays of fresh-cut fruit for their afternoon snack break every month.

Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation raises funds in support of Tofield Health Centre to benefit citizens of Tofield, Ryley, Holden and the surrounding area.
