Rural Medicine Locum Program

The Rural Medicine Locum program was initiated in 2009, providing a service to our Rural Family Physicians in our communities. The intent of the program was also to engage new Family Physicians and Foreign Physicians to rural practice and life and family physicians looking to retire from their practice and work in the program.

The Rural Medicine Locum program:

  • Guarantees $1000.00 per full day and $500.00 per half day
  • All of your billings are done through the Department of Rural Medicine
  • Overhead to the Clinic $300.00 per full day and $150.00 per half day is covered by the Department
  • Accommodation and Travel for a Week locum (Monday to Friday) is the responsibility of the Family Physician requesting
  • Accommodation and Travel for a Weekend locum (Friday 1700 to Monday 0700) is the responsibility of the Department
  • The assignment could be a combination of clinic practice, inpatients, emergency shift, urgent care shifts (were applicable) and low risk OB (were applicable)

Criteria for the Rural Medicine Locum Program

  • Privileged with the Department of Rural Medicine
  • Current CPSA and CMPA
  • ACLS required
  • Required to sign a Rural Medicine Locum Program Contract
  • Required to sign a Business Arrangement/Services Provider Relationship form with the Department
  • Required to attend an AMA Billing Seminar applicable to Rural Medicine
