To help control and track the flow of information and ensure it is relevant to the majority of physicians, documents posted to this site are reviewed and approved by both the Chief Physician Executive Office and the Alberta Health Services Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC).

AHS is working in partnership with AHW, the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), the universities of Alberta and Calgary Faculties of Medicine, and the Professional Association of Residents of Alberta (PARA), to develop strategies and supports with respect to maintaining the province's medical workforce and optimizing its effectiveness during the pandemic.

Physician H1N1 Updates

This reference tool tracks all H1N1 communications targeted to physicians.  Physicians are requested to monitor the Information for Health Professionals page to keep up to date.  (Physicians are notified by fax of all relevant Pandemic (H1N1) issues and of the accompanying support documents posted to this site.)

Staff and Physician H1N1 Vaccinations

The H1N1 immunization program for AHS staff and physicians will resume Wednesday, November 4, 2009. The program will be phased and Phase 1 will consist of the delivery of the vaccine to health care workers who provide direct hands on care and/or face-to-face interaction with patients. Phase 1 will remain in effect until the national shortage of supply is resolved. Phase 2 of the program will focus on health care workers and support staff that have limited or no direct hands on care or face-to-face interaction with patients. For more information, please read the attached memorandum.

H1N1 Physician Registration

The purpose of this registration tool is to provide a communications link between Alberta Health Services and physicians in Alberta to manage the response to pandemic influenza.

Benefits of doing this include:

  • You help identify physicians available to help during different phases of the pandemic, both to continue providing regular health services and to provide new, H1N1 specific services such as influenza assessment centres.
  • You help ensure that Alberta Health and Wellness can compensate you through any special pandemic payment programs it may implement.
  • You help provide Alberta Health Services with information on how the physician workforce in Alberta will be affected during the pandemic response.

Please register and provide your information where indicated.
