Elementary School Resources

Grade 3

The Grade 3 Lessons include six 45-minute lessons that support the Alberta Learning Program of Studies, 2002. The lessons focus on improving and practising positive health habits and cover concepts such as safety rules, healthy alternatives to alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and gambling, the importance of personal goals and role models, the benefits of healthy choices, the effects of positive and negative peer influence, and the importance of recognizing personal skills and assets. The lessons can be taught as a series or by themselves.

Grade 4

Leaps and Bounds was developed in support of the Alberta Learning Program of Studies, 2002. It is made up of eight lesson plans, which encourage children to make sound decisions regarding drug and alcohol use and gambling. The focus of this resource is to provide the students with accurate information and assist them in acquiring life skills, while emphasizing the importance of internalizing healthy lifestyle choices.

Grade 5

Leaps and Bounds was developed in support of the Alberta Learning Program of Studies, 2002. It is comprised of eight lesson plans, each of which fulfills specific outcomes outlined in the Grade 5 Health and Life Skills Curriculum. The focus of this resource is to provide the students with accurate information and assist them in acquiring life skills, while emphasizing the importance of internalizing healthy lifestyle choices.

Grade 6

The focus of this resource is to provide the students with accurate information and assist them in acquiring life skills, while emphasizing the importance of internalizing healthy lifestyle choices.

This is a student workbook to go with the Leaps and Bounds teacher's guide for Grade 6. The workbook is a collection of black line masters for students to use with the lessons. The workbook includes a list of lesson topics, a page to record definitions (with a teacher's master copy), a quiz, a personal survey, and a selection of activities that enable students to complete assignments and record their learning.

Grades 4-5-6

Teaming Up for Tobacco-Free Kids is a team of organizations and companies concerned about the effects of tobacco use on kids. The team encourages elementary school children to make healthy choices and to stand by those choices. It also recognizes and respects the traditional Aboriginal use of ceremonial tobacco as opposed to the habitual misuse of tobacco.
