EMPLOYEE BENEFITS AND PENSION

Your well-being is our priority

At AHS, we understand how vital our people are to fulfilling our mission of providing a patient-focused, high quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.

Our most important asset is our people; when you are at your best, we are at our best. That’s why we provide a variety of benefits as well as pension plans to enhance the health and well-being of our employees and their families now and in the future.

It’s one more reason we believe life is better with AHS.

AHS provides a comprehensive benefits plan through the Heath Benefits Trust of Alberta (HBTA) to enhance the health and well-being of our employees and their families. The Local Authority Pension Plan (LAPP) and Group Savings Plan (GSP) provide future retirement and savings options. Benefits and pension coverage differs based on employee group and may include:

  • Supplementary Health
  • Dental
  • Life Insurance
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)
  • Disability Coverage
  • Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP)
  • Group Savings Plan (RRSP/TFSA)
  • Flex Spending

See Benefits-at-a-Glance for a summary of benefits and pension coverage for our employee groups.

Local Authorities Pension Plan

Retirement is a significant life event for anyone, and we’re committed to your success – now, and in the future. The Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) is a defined benefit pension plan that all regular, full-time employees are enrolled in. Eligible regular part-time and temporary employees have the option to enroll. Upon retirement, you will receive a pension based on your salary and years of service.

Group Savings Plan

AHS is proud to offer employees a Group Savings Plan, a simple and effective way to save for the future. Employees can save for retirement; put money aside for a major purchase, or start an emergency fund by opening a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and/or Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). Benefits of the plan include lower investment management fees than with individual plans, contributions through convenient payroll deductions, and even the ability to open a spousal account.

Learning Resources

At AHS we believe in providing access to development opportunities and resources so you can not only do your job effectively but also bring your potential to life. A variety of learning resources are available covering everything from best practice training to leadership skills. Learning is delivered three ways: face-to-face learning (classroom), e-learning and a combination of both called blended learning.

Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

Every AHS employee and their immediate family members have access to a variety of free and confidential support services. The Employee & Family Assistance Program provides immediate and relevant support that can help you take action to achieve and maintain your mental and physical well-being.

Employee Fitness & Recreation Discount Program

Physical activity has an impact on our overall wellness. To make physical activity more affordable and accessible to our employees, AHS has negotiated discounted rates with over 150 fitness and recreation facilities across the province.
