Cardiology unit implements time-saving nursing report
A new style of “passing the baton” between nurses at shift-change is opening
up more time for bedside care in a unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Thanks to the new method of nurse reporting, an extra 34,520 minutes (or 576
hours) are being made available for bedside nursing care each year on a unit in
the Royal Alex’s CK Hui Heart Centre, all without costing a dime.

Working on wellness
Last
year, employees told AHS what they need to support their well-being. And this
year, the organization is working to deliver on those needs.
In the summer of 2011, the Workplace Health and Wellness Team—part of Workplace
Health and Safety—launched the AHS Employee Wellness Survey to find out what
affects employee wellness at work and home.

Preventing medical emergencies
A
Code Blue is called when a patient goes into cardiac arrest or other medical
emergency, and it’s a serious situation.
But thanks in part to the implementation of the Rapid Assessment and Treatment
team at Chinook Regional Hospital, the number of Code Blues has dropped
significantly.
