Alberta Health Services named one of Canada’s Top Employers

EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has been recognized as one of the best places to work in Canada, a strong endorsement of the care provided to Albertans by our staff, physicians and volunteers every day.

Founded in 1999, Canada’s Top 100 Employers recognizes leading organizations who are offering exceptional workplaces for their employees. Approximately 7,500 companies were invited to submit applications for a place on this year’s list.

Through this award, AHS gains recognition not only as a preferred Canadian employer, but also as a leading employer in healthcare. The list is described as a “who’s who” of employers who are leading the nation in attracting and retaining employees.

AHS received top marks in five of the eight categories used by the editors to make their selection. AHS’ recent establishment of a diversity and inclusion council along with its efforts to facilitate work placements for new Canadians and persons with intellectual disabilities were also listed as reasons for the organization’s selection.

Evidence suggests that improved employee engagement leads to improved patient care.

AHS’ workforce includes more than 130,000 people working in hospitals, clinics, urgent care centres, continuing care facilities and communities across the province.

The Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition is an annual event founded by MediaCorp Canada, the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals that reaches more than 13 million Canadians annually through a variety of magazine and newspaper partners, including the Globe and Mail.
