RED DEER - A newly recruited family physician is now accepting new patients and available to provide care to Red Deer and central Alberta residents.

Dr. Kamal Mustafa is working out of Easthill Medical Clinic in the city. Dr. Mustafa will also be providing care in local continuing care facilities, as well as hospitalist and palliative care at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-343-0115 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.

“This is wonderful news for patients in both Red Deer and central Alberta,” says Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North. “The recruitment of physicians with the skill set of Dr. Kamal Mustafa to the community will help ensure timely access to services for people throughout the region.”

“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” adds Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It is good to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to serve families and individuals in our wonderful community.”

Easthill Medical Clinic now has four physicians serving the community.

“Red Deer has a growing healthcare sector and offers many opportunities for physicians to grow their careers,” says Dr. Mustafa, who previously practised in Ontario and Saudi Arabia, and received his medical education in Pakistan. “The city also offers a balance of urban amenities and a more relaxed lifestyle compared to larger centres, which is appealing to physicians who are seeking a better work-life balance.”

In his leisure time, Dr. Mustafa enjoys watching sports, particularly cricket; playing table tennis; listening to Bollywood music and watching movies.

Alberta Health Services continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
