Home Visitation Program
A long-term program for first time parents who need extra support with day to day challenges in parenting their children. The program may begin prenatally or families may be referral up to 3 months after baby's birth. Some agencies that deliver the service accept referrals of families with children up to 2 years of age, and from families who are parenting for the first time in Canada. Services may continue until the child is five years of age. Home Visitors work with new families in their homes and help parents develop their strengths.
Home Visitation is funded by Alberta Human Services, and delivered by 13 community agencies in Edmonton, St. Albert, Parkland County, Sturgeon County, Strathcona County, and Leduc County. In some programs, Public Health Nurses provide assessments and primary health services, in partnership with agencies that deliver the Home Visitation Program.
