Addiction & Mental Health Education in Schools

AHS Addiction and Mental Health has a long association with Alberta schools. We work with students and teachers in a number of ways to prevent use and abuse of alcohol, other drugs and gambling.

Curriculum-aligned Resources

We have developed a series of classroom resources for teachers to use when talking about drugs, alcohol, and gambling. The resources meet Alberta Education's curriculum requirements at the same time as providing prevention programs that are based on research and best practice.

Children and youth are largely vulnerable to experimentation and potential harmful involvement with alcohol, other drugs and gambling at key transition points in their lives. These key points occur in grades 4, 7, 9, and 11. Our school resources focus on these grades.

Mobile Service Teams

AHS Addiction and Mental Health Mobile Services teams provide treatment and prevention services on-site, in many Alberta schools and community settings.

Community Collaboration

AHS Addiction and Mental Health expert advice in the area of addiction is often sought by schools and other community groups. AHS Addiction and Mental Health provides consultation to the community in a number of areas important in preventing substance use and abuse by youth. These include resiliency, drug information, policy, resource development and programming expertise.
