Bridging primary and urgent health care into the home

The Calgary Community Paramedic Program (CPP) provides immediate or scheduled primary, urgent and specialized healthcare to vulnerable patient populations.  The program focuses on improving equity in healthcare access across the Calgary Zone.  Our program provides mobile community medicine to thousands of people each year.

Who is this program for?
  • Medically fragile individuals requiring specialized treatments which are necessary to remain out of hospital
  • Frail elderly, individuals aging in place or persons with disabilities that have limited mobility and social support which restricts their ability to access needed medical care
  • Individuals recently discharged from acute care at-risk for re-admission
  • Individuals disconnected from the healthcare system because of difficulties associated with homelessness, addiction, and mental health
Available On-site Interventions

Diagnostics

  • Specimen collection (blood, urine, swabs)
  • 12/15 lead ECGs
  • Vital signs including temperature, blood   glucose, SPO2, Side Stream CO2, BP
  • Facilitate transports for diagnostic imaging

Treatments

  • CVC &IV rehydration
  • IV, SQ, IM, PO, PORT & PICC medication administration including IV antibiotics
  • 53 stocked medications
  • Blood transfusions
  • Urinary catheterization
  • Wound closure & care (tissue adhesive, sutures, dressings)
  • Oxygen and nebulizer therapy
  • Coordination of community services

    Services are available 365 days a year from 06:00-22:00.  Patient visits can be scheduled same day or as requested
