Health to Home

The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital was pleased to host the Spotlight on Innovation: Health to Home event on November 7, 2018.  The day's focus was on solving the challenges faced by people with disabilities as they transition from healthcare to home settings. The event was designed to unleash innovation by connecting clinical knowledge, innovative talent and business development expertise. The keynote speaker for this unique event was Dr. Geoff Fernie, Senior Scientist from Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.  Geoff’s research interests include developing technologies to prevent injury and disease, and to help individuals and their family caregivers continue to live in their own homes as they age.  He has been responsible for many products that assist people’s independence, including innovative wheelchairs and bathroom aids.  Many of his inventions have reduced the physical burden of caring for people, including the prevention of back and shoulder injuries in professional nurses and family caregivers caused by lifting and moving people.

This full-day event included a breakfast with keynote address; pitch sessions to present expertise, research or clinical challenges, innovation and expertise; exhibits; poster symposium; a workshop focused on strategies for innovation for small-medium businesses in the global market; networking opportunities and a panel discussion.  The event was attended by clinicians, healthcare administrators, innovators, government/policy administrators, investors, clinical researchers, students, patients, entrepreneurs, academia and small and large industries.
