Practice Change – Umbilical Cord Clamps - Calgary Zone

A practice change related to the removal of umbilical cord clamps in newborns within Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone will be implemented June 15, 2016.

As part of a natural umbilical cord process, staff in postpartum services will leave the newborn umbilical cord clamp attached to the drying umbilical cord, allowing it to fall off with the naturally dried stump.
