DRUMHELLER — Parents and children alike can discover the joys of multidisciplinary play at while learning ways to incorporate both activities at home through a community program with Alberta Health Services (AHS).
Children’s Rehabilitation Services has partnered with the Drumheller Public Library to offer a drop-in summer play experience called Treasures, running once a week through July and August.
Each week Treasures will a feature a story related to the treasure theme and a multidisciplinary activity that provides parents an opportunity to connect with a variety of members of the Children’s Rehabilitation Services team, including speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and therapy assistants. The program will also help parents learn how they can promote literacy, speech and language and physical development at home with their children.
Treasures will be held in Drumheller on Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Drumheller Public Library, 80 Veterans Way. The program is open to children ages 6 to 11 and their parents. Drop-ins are welcome.
Through the Treasures program the Children’s Rehabilitation Services Team will offer engaging activities for children by applying their developing large and small motor and literacy skills in 3D play. Activities include sensory bin play, obstacle courses and maze matching. Children will decode a secret message hidden in pictures and puzzles throughout the summer. Take-home resources will be available to attendees.
Children’s Rehabilitation Services provides initial screening, assessments, and recommendations for children up to 18 years of age.
