Linda Hughes, Board Chair of Alberta Health Services (AHS), has been awarded the highest honour in Alberta.

On June 27, the Alberta Government announced Hughes will become a member of the Alberta Order of Excellence for her role as a leader in Edmonton and across the province.

Hughes became the Board Chair of AHS in November 2015, and helps with its governance in partnership with Alberta Health. She brings an impressive list of credentials to the table, including serving as the 19th Chancellor to the University of Alberta and Chair of the Senate. She has also been a leading figure in Canadian media for more than 20 years, having helmed the Edmonton Journal as its publisher and CEO from 1992 to 2006. In addition, she is a founding member of the NorQuest College Foundation in Edmonton.

The Alberta Order of Excellence – part of the Canadian Honours System – recognizes leaders from a variety of careers who have made outstanding provincial, national, or international contributions.

“The women and men being honoured with the Alberta Order of Excellence this year are from a great diversity of backgrounds¬ – academia, medicine, sport, community activism and the world of business,” says Premier Rachel Notley. “Yet every one of them is an advocate for a better Alberta.”

Hughes will join seven other members given the Alberta Order of Excellence at the induction ceremony on Oct. 19 in Edmonton.
