AHS youth volunteer program launches this fall

September 1, 2016

GALAHAD – Local teens between the ages of 14 and 17 who are interested in making a difference for patients and their families in their community are encouraged to consider a volunteering at the Galahad Care Centre as part of the new VolunTeen Program.

As part of the afterschool program, students can volunteer their time in a variety of activities. Ranging from one on one visits with residents and patients, assisting at mealtimes, helping out in the gardens, reading out loud, playing card games, delivering essentials to patients rooms, to assisting with special events and taking residents on outings.

Both the Tofield Health Centre and the Two Hills Health Centre will also be launching the VolunTeen program this fall, looking to capture the attention of their local youth.

Volunteers give thousands of hours each year at AHS facilities across central Alberta, helping support patients and families. Even the smallest gestures really go a long way.

Not only does the program provide a way to give back, it also allows the teens an opportunity to learn new skills, while becoming a part of the healthcare team.

If you have an interest in healthcare and enjoy making a difference in the community ─ then the VolunTeen Program may be for you.

To register as VolunTeen at the Galahad Care Centre, please contact AHS Volunteer Resources Coordinator, Gail Benjamin at 403-740-8565 or gail.benjamin@ahs.ca.
