Mental Health Week, May 1 – 7, 2017

May 1, 2017

CENTRAL ZONE – During Mental Health Awareness Week May 1-7, Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites you to boost your mental health and enjoy activities that you and your family can do together.

Research has shown that a multitude of mental health benefits arise from activities that include gardening, playing outdoor sports, walking and running, or just sitting and enjoying the scenery. Positive effects include improved mood and energy; less negativity and worry; a drop in blood pressure; faster recovery from stressful events; an increase in creativity; improved cognitive development in children; and an overall calming effect.

To help you enjoy Mental Health Week, you can do some yoga in the park, go on a nature walk using mindfulness to appreciate the sights and sounds; have lunch in the park; meditate or spend some quality time with friends and family.

During this week and beyond, AHS encourages you to take care of yourself and to share, through Facebook and Twitter, how you are taking care of your mental health. Hashtag posts with #AHSMentalHealthWeek and tag us @AHS_CentralZone and we will re-tweet.
