Patients can continue to access emergency department care during renovations

WAINWRIGHT – Construction continues on a new ambulance bay and expanded emergency department (ED) at the Wainwright Health Centre, with the fourth and final phase of work set to begin April 5.

The former trauma room will be expanded and a minor procedure room and a new waiting area for ED patients will be created. A temporary hallway between the new ED area and main hospital will be created while construction occurs in the existing hallway.

Patients presenting to the emergency department during this time will continue to receive care. Patients with urgent needs will still receive care urgently. Patients with non-urgent health concerns may choose to access other health services during this time, including family physicians, walk-in clinics, the Primary Care Network or access advice from registered nurses by calling Health Link at 811.

A second trauma room and three new examination rooms were added during the previous phase of construction.

Once the project is complete, the emergency department will have three examination rooms, two trauma rooms, a dedicated procedure room, expanded patient waiting area and expanded supply and equipment storage space.

Staff and contractors would like to thank the community for their patience throughout this project.
