The Bow Island & District Health Foundation believes that everyone is entitled to quality healthcare. The Health Foundation strives to improve the overall health of the communities that it serves by enhancing services which are appropriate to their needs. The Bow Island & District Health Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable, community focused organization. 100% of all donations received by the Bow Island & District Health Foundation stay in the area to enhance healthcare in the communities served by the Bow Island Health Centre.
Since its inception in 1996, the Bow Island & District Health Foundation has received donations from generous individuals and organizations in the communities served by the Bow Island Health Centre. These donations contribute significantly to the quality of healthcare for all residents.
Donated funds have been utilized to purchase equipment for the Bow Island Health Centre, Community Health Services, Alfred Egan Home, Emergency Services and a client in need in the community (examples include: ceiling lifts, glydoscope, trauma stretcher, phlebotomy chair and cart, palliative care and family room suites, and a duet bike (see right).
Programs supported include recreational therapy for continuing care residents, educational programs for healthcare personnel, scholarships for graduating students entering the medical field, and recognition programs for volunteers, staff, and donors. Each of these enhancements serves to increase patient comfort and facilitate patient care.
The Bow Island & District Health Foundation is currently raising funds to enhance healthcare in the area.
Ongoing projects such as the Library/Education Fund support library upgrades, staff wellness, staff education, and three annual scholarships (one available to a healthcare provider and one to a high school student entering a healthcare field, and one to a current Alberta Health Services employee). These scholarships are available to anyone within the communities that the Bow Island & District Health Foundation serves such as (Bow Island, Conquerville, Etzikom, Foremost, Hoping, Manyberries, Nemiscam, Orion, Skiff, Whitla, and Winnifred).
In 2012 the Bow Island Health Centre raised approximately $12,000 with a community garage sale to support the Library/Education Fund and Staff Wellness.
The Bow Island & District Health Foundation is very active and organizes events like Raffles, Garage Sales, Concerts, and a Game Show Extravaganza as fundraising initiatives.
Additionally, a direct mail campaign is undertaken annually, in conjunction with a newsletter, to increase awareness of the Health Foundation's work and to encourage donations.
This year a concert has been scheduled for December 12, 2012 at the Medicine Hat Esplanade featuring music by Lunch at Allen’s. Proceeds from the concert will be used to renovate the Pediatric/Observation Room at the Bow Island Health Centre. Anieta Kienzle-Avon Representative is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of a fragrance package entitled “Unplugged for Her” to the renovations of the Pediatric/Observation Room at the Bow Island Health Centre.
In 2012 the Bow Island Health Centre is expanding to include 2 Ambulance Bays and a newly renovated Emergency Department. It is scheduled for completion the summer of 2013.
