Public Health Innovation and Decision Support (PHIDS) is the Applied Research and Decision Support hub of Surveillance and Health Status Assessment within Alberta Health Services’ Population and Public Health Portfolio.
In PHIDS, innovation is seen as the creation of new or improved products, processes and services in public health that result from study and experimentation. Contributors to the scholarly literature on innovation typically distinguish between invention, an idea made manifest, and innovation, ideas applied successfully in practice. Thus, PHIDS focuses not only on researching and developing new ideas, but equally on disseminating successful ideas.
PHIDS is responsible for providing service, consultation, mentorship and partnership in the areas of applied research (including evaluation) and knowledge exchange in population and public health.
