Clinical Indications: | Urine is the specimen of choice for screening for arsenic exposure. | ||
Primary Container: | 24 hour urine, plain bottle (NO ADDITIVE) | ||
Specimen Collection Requirements: | Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior and during collection, as eating seafood before collection can result in elevated arsenic levels. Collect in a clean environment. It is important that dust from clothing not contribute to the specimen contents. DO NOT collect urine in metal or glass, urinals, pans or containers. | ||
Processing: | Thoroughly mix the 24 hour urine. Pour a 30 mL aliquot into a polypropylene plastic screw cap conical centrifuge tube with flat base (30 mL Sarstedt®). Other container types will not be accepted. Store refrigerated. Send the urine sample refrigerated or frozen. | ||
