| Additional Test Information: | TEST NOT CONTINUED WHEN: - Fasting glucose is > 7.8 mmol/L. PATIENT PREPARATION: - Fast a minimum of 8 hours. - Fasting is defined as nothing to eat, chew or drink other than small amounts of water. TEST PROCEDURE: - Remind patient they will remain fasting during the test i.e. nothing to eat, chew or drink other than small amounts of water. Smoking is NOT permitted during the test. - Collect fasting blood specimen and analyse. - If fasting serum glucose is > 7.8 mmol/L the tolerance test will be cancelled. - Administer 75 g glucose load. - Encourage patient to finish drink within 5 minutes. Note time drink was started. - Patient may resume normal diet and activities at conclusion of test. | ||
