| Specimen Collection Requirements: | Specimen Type One nasopharyngeal swab collected with nylon flocked/plastic shaft swab placed into Regan Lowe Transport Media (RLTM) or Universal Transport Media (UTM). Specimen Collection Collect nasopharyngeal swab using nylon flocked swab provided in collection kit. Check expiry date on RLTM or UTM. Gently insert swab straight into nostril, near the septum and below the turbinates, until it reaches the posterior nares. Leave in place for a few seconds. Patient may cough from the tickling sensation. If resistance is encountered, try the other nostril. Place swab into RLTM or UTM, break shaft at the score mark to ensure that the cap can be securely tightened. | ||
