Confirmation of Diagnosis¹ Clinical Genetics, Neurology

Presymptomatic Testing² Clinical Genetics

¹patient has signs or symptoms of the disease/disorder
²patient does not presently have symptoms, positive family history of the condition

Collection Alert:

Blood should be collected on a Monday or Tuesday.
Unopened dedicated tubes (do not share) are required for Molecular testing.

Specimen Collection Requirements:

Testing is referred out to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Refer to Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) for information.

Blood specimens should be received by the referral laboratory within 3 days of being collected. Therefore, it is recommended that blood is drawn on a MONDAY or TUESDAY.

Molecular Genetics Requisition

Please ensure all required information, including patient's clinical history/indication, is provided on the requisition.

Processing:

Do not spin or aliquot specimens.

Transportation:

Specimens should be forwarded to the appropriate location as soon as possible.

For patients who live in Calgary and surrounding communities, send the specimen to the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at ACH (Room B0-020) who will prepare the sample and forward it to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

For patients who live in Edmonton and surrounding communities, blood samples will be sent out to CHEO through the Clinical Trials Referred Out Testing (CROT) Program.
