Specimen Collection Requirements: | 0.2 mL plasma or serum Calgary Zone: Microcollection Minimum Whole Blood Volumes DO NOT swab arm with alcohol; DISINFECT with IODINE. If approved non-alcohol containing swabs are not available and/or the patient has a related allergy to them, it is acceptable to use soap and warm water to cleanse the site for ethanol collections. | ||
Processing: | Centrifuge sample to separate plasma/serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Where possible, a PST or SST collection tube that has never been opened prior to analysis provides the best sample integrity. If tube is opened; exposure of sample to air must be minimal to prevent evaporation of ethanol. Stat tests from PSC route directly to FMC. | ||
