Additional Test Information: | The chemical method for fecal fat has been replaced with an assessment of 72-hour specimen weight, and a qualitative test for fat globules as described in Korostensky et. al. The Journal of applied Laboratory Medicine. June 2018. Specimen weight will be compared to age-specific cut-points with either 45% (7-150 years of age) or 55% (<7 years of age) sensitivity and 80% specificity for abnormal fat excretion (7-150 years: >20.9 mmol/day; <7 years: >6.9 mmol/day). Specimen weight greater than cut-points will be reported as 'HIGH' in a comment. The weight assessment should be interpreted in light of results from the test for fat, stool qualitative. Any specimen collections less than 72 hours collection are NOT acceptable for weight assessment. Specimens collected for less than 72 hours will only be tested for fat, stool qualitative. Note: Additional "random" tests will not be performed on 72 hour collections unless approval has been obtained by ACH Clinical Biochemist or Clinical Biochemist on-call. | ||||||||
