Specimen Collection Requirements:

Lithium Heparin Whole Blood
Do not centrifuge tube.

Minimum sample 300 uL Lithium Heparin Whole Blood

Processing:

Sample must be analyzed within 60 minutes of collection time.

CLS staff: If "Comprehensive Metabolic Panel" is ordered by a U.S. physician, refer to PX-QR3110 Panel Tests.

If Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) or other viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) is suspected, the ordering physician MUST contact the local zone Medical Officer of Health by the fastest means possible.
ANY and ALL laboratory testing for patients with suspected EVD or VHF MUST be coordinated and approved through the local zone Medical Officer of Health.

WBCMP (Whole blood comprehensive metabolic panel) includes:
Total Carbon Dioxide, Glucose, Urea, Creatinine, Calcium, Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Total Bilirubin and Total Protein.

CHEM8+ includes:
Sodium, Potassium, Chloride and Ionized Calcium

WBLPP (Whole blood liver panel plus) includes:
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), Amylase, Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Total Bilirubin, Total Protein, Gamma Glutamyltransferase (GGT).

NOTE: WBCMP and CHEM8+ are the preferred panels for VHF patients. The WBLPP panel contains the same liver tests as WBCMP except GGT.
It is not recommended to order WBCMP AND WBLPP unless amylase and GGT are critical for patient care.
