Specimen Collection Requirements: | See Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Collection Guidelines PX26-02.200 v4.00. Submit a minimum of 1 mL CSF in anaerobic transport media (PRAS), sterile screw-cap tube. If adequate volume is collected, four separate tubes (tubes 1 - 4) are preferred. Label each tube with patient identifiers and order of collection. Processing: | Store specimen at room temperature. DO NOT refrigerate. Transport STAT to hospital laboratory to ensure specimen is received within 15 minutes from collection. Specimen must be received in Microbiology at the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC) within 1 hour of receipt in the hospital laboratory. | ||
