Primary Container:

QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus tube, NIL control (grey cap), TB1 antigen (green cap), TB2 antigen (yellow cap), and Mitogen Control (purple cap)

Specimen Collection Requirements:

QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus tubes, require 1mL of blood.
Please note the black line (red arrow in the below image) present on each tube - this marking represents the acceptable fill volume.
Carefully fill each tube ensuring the blood volume is within the black line.
Blood draws must reach the black line but may not exceed it. Over or underfilling will result in test cancellation.

Repeat into each of the following specific blood collection tubes; NIL control (grey cap), TB1 antigen (green cap), TB2 antigen (yellow cap), and Mitogen Control (purple cap).

Immediately after filling, mix the tubes by shaking them 10 times, just firmly enough to make sure the entire surface of the tube is coated with blood. (Overly vigorous shaking may cause gel disruption and could lead to aberrant results).
Do NOT use any of the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus tubes as a discard tube.
Do NOT cover the window with labels.

Processing:

If time from sample collection to arrival at Public Health Lab North is	Then
Less than 16 hours	Do not centrifuge Do not refrigerate or freeze Transport with room temperature samples
Greater than 16 hours	Incubate tubes in an upright position at 37℃ for 16-24hrs After incubation, centrifuge tubes for 15 minutes at 3000 RCF(g) After centrifugation, maintain tubes at 4℃ Transport with refrigerated samples If centrifugation is not possible, the tubes can be stored between 4℃ and 27℃ for up to 4 days to allow for transport as long as the incubation step is completed Ensure requisition includes the following information: Specimen#: Set up by: Water bath temp: Incubation start time: Incubation end time: Total incubation time:
