Test Includes:	Screen for yeast by microscopy and/or culture. Susceptibility testing is performed only if history of azole-refractory candidiasis/treatment failure is provided. APL Regional Microbiology performs testing for specimens collected at Regional Hospital Sites. Specimen Source:	Mouth Gingiva Throat Tongue Esophagus
Primary Container:	For swab specimens collected at Regional Hospital Sites (Chinook, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Northern Lights, Red Deer Regional Hospitals), use Mod Amies Clear (pink top swab) For swab specimens collected on all other patients, including community and hospital patients in Calgary, Edmonton, and rural sites, use ESwab collection device. Sterile container with sterile saline (for brush specimens)
Specimen Collection Requirements:	Swab Collection Instructions: Require that the patient rinse their mouth with sterile saline Wipe gingival lesion with dry, sterile gauze Swab or scrape areas of exudation or ulceration Carefully place the swab in the collection device, without contaminating it For esophageal brush specimens, cut the brush leaving 2-3 cm of wire and submit the brush in the sterile container with enough sterile saline to cover the brush.

Processing:	Specimens received >48 hours after collection will not be processed
