Clinical Indications:

Primary diagnostic test for autoimmune myasthenia gravis (MG) in adults and children.

Ordering Alert:

Note to ordering physician: This test will be reviewed for approval by Laboratory Medical or Scientific staff.

Collection Alert:

For optimal antibody detection, specimens ideally should be collected before initiation of immunosuppressive therapies.

Additional Test Information:

Muscle Specific Kinase (MUSK) autoantibody testing will be reflex ordered for all patients with a negative Acetylcholine Receptor Antibody (ACHRQ) result.

For urgent testing, call the University of Alberta Hospital switchboard and have the on-call biochemist paged.
