Specimen Collection Requirements:

Obtain Michel’s fixative prior to the procedure.

Ensure there is a 10:1 ratio of fixative to specimen size.

Label according to AHS sample acceptance criteria.

Do not place in formalin; even minimal exposure makes the tissue unacceptable for immunofluorescence studies.

Additional Test Information:

Check the expiry date on the fixative before obtaining the tissue. Store Michel’s transport media in the refrigerator until used. Do not use if past the expiration date, or if it appears cloudy.
