Specimen Collection Requirements: | For muscle and nerve: refer to Muscle Biopsy or Nerve Biopsy. For skin biopsy: submit entire punch biopsy or bisect submitting 1/2 for routine histology and 1/2 for EM. Routine histology is placed in formalin and EM placed in glutaraldehyde. Blood and bone marrow: samples are collected in a heparinized (green top) tube. | ||||

Stability and Storage: | Room Temperature unless after hours (between 0700 and 1600). Refrigerate if the specimen is taken after hours. | ||||
Processing: | Blood and bone marrow samples are prepared by the Hematology Laboratory and delivered immediately to the EM laboratory. | ||||
Transportation: | Deliver to your site Anatomical Pathology department which will forward the specimen to applicable EM lab. | ||||
