Clinical Indications: | Testing for congenital hemolytic anemia, especially if it is induced by oxidative stress (eg. eating Fava/Broad beans). Testing prior to initiation of oxidative medications such as primaquine (anti-malarial). | ||
Ordering Alert: | CBC must also be ordered/available for testing at the same time of G6PD. Reticulocyte Count is recommended. Specimen collection for G6PD shall be collected prior to transfusion of red cells. | ||
