Specimens in MEDQUEST Evacuated Prevac plastic thoracentesis/effusion collection containers are not acceptable. DO NOT send glass containers through the pneumatic tube system. | ||||||||||

Specimen Collection Requirements: | Submit fresh fluid (no fixative).
Containers must be securely tightened to avoid leakage. Place collected specimen in a sealed biohazard bag. Place requisition in outside pouch. Stability and Storage: | Room temperature up to 4 hours. Refrigerate after 4 hours. | ||||||||||
Transportation: | Calgary Zone: If tests other than Cytopathology are required on the specimen as well, a requisition for each department must be completed and accompany the specimen. If Microbiology testing is required, the specimen must be sent there first. Edmonton Zone: University of Alberta Hospital only: Deliver to the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory (Specimen Receiving) Walter Mackenzie Centre 5B4.29 immediately. After hours and weekends are to be delivered to Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (Specimen Control) WMC 4B2.10. | ||||||||||
