| Ordering Alert: | This test is for monitoring of patients with an established diagnosis of galactosemia on dietary therapy. This test is not appropriate for the diagnosis of galactosemia. For investigation of galactosemia in a patient, please order Galactosemia Screen, and confirmatory Galactose-1-Phosphate Uridyltransferase testing if the screen is abnormal. The healthcare professional ordering this test must call the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory (403) 955-7379 or the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory (780) 407-8820 at least 24 hours in advance to inform the lab of, and obtain any necessary information pertaining to, location and timing of the collection. | ||
| Collection Alert: | For the South Sector, collections are recommended to be done at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Outpatient Lab between 0800h – 1200h. Prior to collection of specimens, call ACH Biochemical Genetics lab (403) 955-7379 or UAH Biochemical Genetics lab (780) 407-8820. Collect Monday through Wednesday only, excluding holidays. Specimens should be collected early enough in the day to arrive in the ACH or UAH Biochemical Genetics Lab by 12:00 noon on the day of collection. Consult with lab if other arrangements are necessary. | ||
