Clinical Indications: | This test is performed to diagnose:

Collection Alert: | Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease (CJD) - If the patient has known or suspected CJD, a Cytopathology test CANNOT be processed and the specimen will be rejected. Indicate on the requisition if the CSF was collected via lumbar puncture or shunt. Indicate on the requisition if the patient has received intrathecal chemotherapy from the collection site. If leukemia or lymphoma is suspected, a separate CSF specimen is required for Flow Cytometry. DO NOT refrigerate or add fixative or CytoLyte® Solution to this specimen Refer to Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Collection Guidelines PX26-02.200. | ||||||||||

Stability and Storage: | Room temperature up to 1 hour. Refrigerate after 1 hour. Calgary Zone: If a delay of more than 24 hours is anticipated, add an equal amount of CytoLyt® for the Cytopathology test. Central Zone: Transport for testing within 2 hours of collection. | ||||||||||
Transportation: | Deliver to the laboratory IMMEDIATELY. Hand directly to laboratory staff. Edmonton Zone: Deliver to the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory (Specimen Receiving) Walter Mackenzie Centre (WMC) 5B4.29. | ||||||||||
