Clinical Indications: | This test is used to evaluate the pattern of urinary carbohydrate excretion when there is a strong clinical suspicion of a disorder of monosaccharide transport or carbohydrate metabolism (e.g., galactosemia, fructosemia), or when the sugar (i.e., reducing substances) screen has been found to be abnormal and there was insufficient sample for reflexive testing. This test is not the recommended method for diagnosing galactosemia, diabetes or the intestinal enzyme deficiencies (congenital sucrase-isomaltase or lactase deficiency). | |||||||||
