Specimen Collection Requirements:

This test requires on site laboratory to have stabilization reagent. Verify on site laboratory has reagent before collection. Contact University of Alberta Hospital Special Chemistry at 780-407-8491 for reagent, if required.
On site laboratory must notify University of Alberta Hospital Special Chemistry that a specimen is being collected and transported. Do NOT collect on a Friday afternoon or weekend.

Test Resources:

General Laboratory Requisition – 21302 – write test name under “Additional Tests”

Stability and Storage:

Stabilized specimen is stable 24 hours at 4°C. Do NOT freeze.

Processing:

Centrifuge for 10 minutes.
Make a comment if any cells are present.
Pipette 1 mL into labelled tube, add 1 drop stabilizer reagent, and mix well with vortex. Note: Stabilized urine cannot be used for other tests including creatinine.
Pipette the the remaining spun unstabilized into another tube for creatinine analysis.
Do NOT freeze.

Transportation:

Send both stabilized and unstabilized specimens.
Transport at refrigerated temperature.
Specimens must arrive at UAH Special Chemistry within 24 hours of collection.
