Clinical Indications: | This dipstick screening test is for the investigation of patients suspected of having isolated sulfite oxidase, or molybdenum co-factor deficiencies, based on clinical presentation.
Confirmation of a positive sulfite screen, or investigation of patients suspected of having isolated sulfite oxidase or molybdenum co-factor deficiencies based on clinical presentation but for which a specimen will not reach the lab within the required timeframe of specimen stability, should order urine S-Sulfocysteine Panel testing. | ||||||
Collection Alert: | For south sector, collections are recommended to be performed at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Before collection of specimens, call Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) Biochemical Genetics lab 403-955-7379 or University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Biochemical Genetics lab 780-407-8820. Collect Monday to Friday before 1400 hours (excluding holidays) only. | ||||||

Method and Interpretation of Results: | Although a clearly positive test is highly suggestive of either disorder, it is dependent on testing fresh urine. A negative test cannot be used to rule out these disorders, and further testing is recommended if warranted by specific clinical suspicion. | ||||||
