Patient MUST NOT have taken ASA, Naproxen or Ibuprofen types of medication 7-10 days prior to testing date. Also, no smoking within 2 hours of testing. Minimum Collection Volume: | Calgary Zone: Adults: Eight 2.7 mL LT blue citrate tube, allow the vacuum tube to completely fill. Edmonton Zone: Adults: Ten 4.5 mL LT blue citrate tube, allow the vacuum tube to completely fill. | ||||||||||||
Specimen Collection Requirements: | It is important to fill tube to maximum draw. Must be collected by venipuncture. When using a winged blood collection set (butterfly needle), a discard tube of 2 to 3 mL must be drawn to remove the air in the tubing, if only a citrate tube is drawn or is the first tube drawn. Mix well immediately after collection by inverting tube 3 to 4 times. Edmonton Zone: Contact technologist at (780) 407-8487 (Special Coagulation), prior to phlebotomy. Use a 21 gauge needle only for blood collection. Must be indicated in collection notes if a different gauge is used and Special Coagulation lab must be notified. | ||||||||||||
