Clinical Indications:

This test quantitatively detects as little as 0.03% (1.5 mL) of fetal blood in maternal circulation during pregnancy.
When an ABO incompatibility exists between mother and child, the fetal cells may be destroyed by the maternal anti A or anti B resulting in misleading under-estimates of the fetal bleed.

Specimen Collection Requirements:

Tube should be allowed to fill to maximum draw.
Mix well immediately after collection by inverting tube 8 to 10 times.
Microcollection tube MUST be filled to TOP line and mixed well by GENTLE inversion.

DO NOT centrifuge or freeze.

Transportation:

Transport at room temperature within 4 hours of collection. If delivery to the laboratory will exceed 4 hours, transport at refrigerated temperature.

Specimen must be received at performing site within 24 hours of collection.

For testing sent to Calgary from outside Alberta:

Transport at refrigerated temperature by FedEx overnight shipping. Specimen must be received within 24 hours of collection. Fax the tracking number and the requisition to 403-270-4135.
