Ordering Alert:

This test is performed in combination with First Trimester Nuchal Translucency (NT) Ultrasound Screen. Ensure sector-specific requisition is completed and followed (available in Test Resources).

Physicians: this risk assessment can only be performed between:

Calgary: between 11 weeks to 13 weeks 6 days gestation and, preferably, no later than 3 business days before NT ultrasound appointment.
Edmonton: 11 weeks 2 days to 13 weeks 6 days gestation.
For testing of 15 weeks to 20 weeks 6 days gestation, refer to: Second Trimester Prenatal Risk Assessment (AFP) or Second Trimester Prenatal Risk Assessment (QUAD)

Specimen Collection Requirements:

A nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasound is required and must be performed by an individual certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) to obtain NT measurements.

Edmonton: Ultrasound to be performed before or on the same day as blood collection.

Calgary: This test is performed in combination with First Trimester Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound Screen provided by Maternal Fetal Medicine, EFW Radiology.

	First Trimester Prenatal Screen Assessment Requisition A copy of the completed requisition must be sent with the sample.		First Trimester Combined Screen (FTS) Blood Work A copy of the completed requisition must be sent with the sample.

Please ensure all required information, including patient's clinical history/indication, is provided on the requisition.

Processing:

Centrifuge and aliquot serum into plastic transport tube.

Transportation:

Calgary: Transport at room temperature.
Edmonton: Transport at refrigerated temperature.
