Clinical Indications:

May be useful when it is difficult to distinguish Type 1 from Type 2 diabetes

Aids in the diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome.

At high levels, they may be associated with neurological autoimmunity (autoimmune encephalitis, autoimmune epilepsy, or autoimmune myelopathy)

Ordering Alert:

This test is only performed if specimens meet one of these criteria:

The patient has a history of abnormal diabetes markers such as HbA1C and glucose.

It is ordered by a neurologist, endocrinologist, or rheumatologist.
