Test Name/Synonym: | Adenosine Deaminase and Purine Nucleoside Phosphorylase (Referred Test) (Synonym: ADA, PNP)
Clinical Indications: | This test is for the investigation of erythrocyte adenosine deaminase (ADA) and purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) deficiencies as the cause for an immunodeficiency. This test is NOT for ADA2 and/or Diamond-Blackfan Anemia testing. For monitoring of known ADA- or PNP-deficient patients in response to a non-enzyme replacement therapy (non-ERT), such as bone marrow/hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or gene therapy order Adenosine Deaminase and Purine Nucleoside Phosphorylase and Metabolites, Monitoring (Referred Test). For the purpose of titrating dosing of PEG-ADA ERT in known ADA-deficient patients order PEG-Adenosine Deaminase Monitoring (Referred Test).
Test Includes: | Adenosine deaminase and purine nucleoside phosphorylase enzymatic activities in erythrocytes.
Ordering Alert: | The healthcare professional ordering this test must call the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory 403-955-7379 or the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory 780-407-8820 at least 24 hours in advance to discuss the reason for referral with the Biochemical Geneticist on-service. Any necessary information pertaining to location and timing of the collection will also be provided. This test is considered specialty testing; this test will be cancelled if sufficient clinical justification is not provided. Pleural or cardiac effusion, sputum or other specimen types for the express purpose of tuberculosis testing will NOT be accepted.
